My partner, Marc, had worked in the electro-mechanical field for over 20 years, before discovering his true passion - renewable energy. Since then, he has immersed himself in the RE industry with an emphasis on wind and photovoltaic technologies, and has taken numerous courses through the Solar Energy Institute and Midwest Renewable Energy Association. With his son, Stevie, and I, we established a small business, WindFarmer Power & Light, in 2007 and specialize in installation and maintenance of small wind and solar electric systems. He is especially interested in remote, off-grid applications. We've recently opened an on-line store, Off-Grid Solutions.
I have worked in business settings most of my life and now manage the family business and help in the field when needed. I've always loved nature and feel a strong connection to the earth. I love homestead life and am an enthusiastic gardener, to say the least. For the past ten years I have reveled in our organic garden and, through trials and tribulations, have grown a bit wiser.
Together we are an environmentally conscious couple living as self-sufficiently as possible in the High Plains of Northwest Nebraska. We have seen some extreme situations here - D4 drought, hoards of grasshoppers, 100+ mph winds (they called it an "inland hurricane"), blizzards, fires, and lately the Ips beetles have been moving into the area creating havoc to the Pine trees in the forest we live in. While we have to deal with many extremes, it can also be a peaceful, extremely awesome place to live...and we will not give up on our journey to sustainability. We have our feet on the ground and know that being sustainable means so more than energy independence or having a garden, it encompasses so much more. We don’t have PHDs (unless you mean post hole diggers...we have 2 of those) and know we are not experts, but we’d love to share our experiences and help others, even if it's in the tiniest way, to be a little bit more self-reliant.
